2-cell Li-Ion charge manager with programmable profile
The Texas Instruments BQ24005PWPRG4 is a linear charge management IC designed specifically for charging 2-series lithium-ion battery packs to a target voltage of 8.4 V. It delivers a constant-current charge up to 1.2 A max, with the charge current and safety timer set by external resistors — no I2C or SMBus overhead.
Charge current and thermal budget at 1.2 A
At 1.2 A charge current, the linear regulator drops the input voltage down to the 8.4 V battery voltage. The power dissipated as heat is the input-to-output voltage differential multiplied by the charge current. At a 10 V supply max, that differential can reach 1.6 V, producing nearly 2 W of dissipation — the HTSSOP thermal pad is not optional.
Active production — no EOL concern
No official pin-compatible second source or successor is listed, so the BOM should treat this as a single-sourced line item.
