Single-cell Li-Ion linear charger with programmable current and timer
The Texas Instruments BQ24002RGWR is a linear battery charger IC designed for single-cell Lithium Ion packs. It delivers a constant charge current programmable up to 1.2 A maximum, with a regulated battery voltage of 4.2 V. Built-in over-temperature fault protection guards the die against thermal runaway during high-current charging or elevated ambient conditions. The device operates over a -40°C to 70°C ambient temperature range, suiting it for portable consumer, medical, and industrial handheld equipment where the charger shares the board with the application processor.
Charge current and thermal budget
At the 1.2 A maximum charge current, the linear regulator dissipates power as (VIN - VBAT) × ICHG. The programmable timer and current set resistor allow the designer to trade charge time against thermal budget. A lower current setting reduces dissipation and lets the part run in a smaller enclosure.
Supplied in a 20-VQFN Exposed Pad package (5x5 mm body), the BQ24002RGWR is surface-mount only.
