1.2 A charge current — thermal budget and charge time
The BQ24002PWPRG4 is a linear charger for single-cell Lithium Ion packs, delivering a constant-current charge up to 1.2 A to a 4.2 V termination voltage. The linear regulation topology means all voltage drop between the input supply and the battery is dissipated as heat in the pass element. The programmable current feature lets you dial back the charge rate if the board's thermal budget cannot handle the full 1.2 A.
Supply voltage and input protection
The maximum supply voltage is 10 V, which covers standard 5 V USB and 9 V wall-adapter inputs but excludes 12 V or higher rails. The charger includes over-temperature fault protection that shuts down the pass element if the die temperature exceeds the thermal limit — a necessary safeguard given the dissipation at high charge currents. There is no battery thermistor input on this variant; the safety timer (programmable via an external capacitor) provides the backup termination if the battery never reaches the 4.2 V regulation voltage.
Operating range and deployment environments
The temperature floor allows cold-start charging down to -40°C, though charge current should be reduced below 0°C per the battery manufacturer's guidelines. The 70°C ceiling limits deployment in engine bays, solar-exposed outdoor enclosures, or other high-ambient environments.
