1.2 A charge current — thermal budget in a 20-HTSSOP
The BQ24002PWPR is a linear single-cell Li-Ion charger from Texas Instruments that delivers up to 1.2 A constant-current charge to a 4.2 V battery pack. The linear topology means the pass element drops the difference between input and battery voltage as heat — at 1.2 A with a 5 V input and a 3.7 V battery, the dissipation is about 1.6 W.
Input supply and programmable features
The charger accepts a supply up to 10 V, which covers common wall adapters and USB inputs (5 V). The constant-current charge level is set by an external resistor, and a timer provides a safety timeout — both are programmable via the ISET and TMR pins. Over-temperature fault protection is built in; if the die temperature exceeds the threshold, the charger reduces the current to protect itself and the battery.
Operating temperature and environment
The 70°C ceiling excludes under-hood automotive or outdoor enclosures in direct sun, but the -40°C floor handles cold storage and shipping.
