2-cell Li-Ion/Li-Po charge controller in 8-TSSOP
The Texas Instruments BQ2057WTSG4 is a linear charge-management IC designed for 2-cell lithium-ion or lithium-polymer battery stacks. It targets a constant-current, constant-voltage charge profile with a programmable charge current, and the pack voltage is fixed at 8.4 V for the 2-cell series configuration. The operating temperature range is -20°C to 70°C, covering indoor, consumer, and most industrial environments — not rated for automotive underhood or extended high-temp applications.
Programmable charge current — set it with one resistor
The BQ2057WTSG4 uses a constant-current, constant-voltage (CC/CV) algorithm. The charge current is programmable via an external sense resistor, giving the designer flexibility to match the charge rate to the battery capacity. The IC itself does not integrate a power FET — an external pass transistor handles the current path, so the thermal dissipation is off-chip. Supply voltage maximum is 15 V, which gives adequate headroom for a 2-cell stack charged from a regulated 12 V rail or a 9–15 V adapter. The IC monitors cell voltage and terminates charge when the pack reaches 8.4 V.
