Single-cell Li-Ion/Polymer linear charger in SOIC-8
Charge current is set by an external resistor — constant-current/constant-voltage profile with programmable current, no microcontroller interface needed. The 15 V maximum input voltage covers standard 5 V USB supplies and 9–12 V wall adapters, with the linear topology keeping the BOM simple for portable and handheld equipment.
Programmable charge current and thermal envelope
Charge current is constant and programmable via a single resistor between the PROG pin and ground — the range is set by the resistor value, not a register, so no firmware is required. The linear regulator dissipates the voltage drop between input and the 4.2 V battery as heat; at higher charge rates the SOIC-8 package's thermal impedance limits the practical current to around 1 A in free air.
For a linear charger IC in an established process and SOIC-8 package, the supply outlook is stable — no imminent obsolescence risk for production builds.
