Shunt reference that doesn't starve the feedback loop
It sinks up to 100 mA — enough to drive the LED in a PC817 optocoupler and still hold regulation across load steps. The minimum cathode current to stay in regulation is 35 µA, so you can bias it from a high-impedance divider without wasting power. The reference voltage is 2.5 V with a ±1% tolerance, and the output can be programmed up to 36 V with two resistors.
Housed in a SOT-23-3 package, the ATL431AIDBZR fits tight layouts on a 24 V industrial PSU or a 12 V automotive ECU board. The shunt architecture means no external compensation capacitor — just the resistor divider and the output capacitor for noise filtering. Surface-mount assembly in the SOT-23-3 footprint is standard; the small pad area means the thermal rise at 100 mA continuous output is manageable with basic copper pour.
