The 50 mV of receiver hysteresis is a practical advantage on electrically noisy RS-485 buses. It prevents output chatter when the differential input sits near the switching threshold, which is common on idle or lightly loaded buses. This is a built-in noise margin that would otherwise require external Schmitt-trigger or passive filtering. For a pure receiver (no driver on chip), this hysteresis is the primary parameter that determines signal integrity at the receiving end.
