16-bit, 500k SPS — what that means for the acquisition chain
The ADS8322YB/250 is a 16-bit successive-approximation-register (SAR) ADC from the microPOWER™ series, sampling at 500k samples per second. That combination — 16 bits at half a mega-sample — puts it squarely in the middle of the speed-vs-resolution trade: fast enough to capture a 250 kHz bandwidth signal with Nyquist margin, and precise enough to resolve 1 part in 65,536 on a 5 V full-scale input. The single-ended or pseudo-differential input accepts a 0-to-5 V swing, powered by a single 5 V analog and digital supply rail. No split supplies, no level-shifting on the digital side — the parallel output bus talks directly to a 5 V DSP or FPGA port without a translator.
Temperature range and package — board-fit constraints
Housed in a 32-lead TQFP (5x5 mm body), the package is a fine-pitch QFP with 0.8 mm lead pitch. The exposed pad on the bottom side should be soldered to a ground-plane island on the PCB for thermal relief and a low-inductance return path — a standard layout practice for SAR ADCs running at 500k SPS.
