80 MSPS pipelined ADC in a 20-SSOP
The Texas Instruments ADS831E is an 8-bit pipelined analog-to-digital converter with a 1:1 S/H-ADC configuration, sampling at 80 million samples per second. The pipelined architecture means it sustains that rate on every clock cycle — no pipeline delay penalty on throughput — which matters when the converter feeds a real-time control loop or a high-speed data acquisition front-end.
Differential or single-ended — one input, two front-end options
The single input channel accepts either differential or single-ended signals. Differential drive buys you common-mode rejection on a noisy ground plane; single-ended simplifies the drive circuit when the source is already referenced to the ADC's analog supply. The choice is in the front-end layout, not a pin-strap change.
5 V supply rails and parallel data bus
Both the analog and digital supply rails are 5 V, so the same 5 V rail can power the ADC core and the output bus without a separate digital regulator. The parallel data interface presents all eight bits on each clock edge — no serialization delay, but it consumes more board traces than an SPI part. The 20-SSOP (0.154-inch body, 3.90 mm width) keeps the footprint compact for a parallel bus device.
