12-bit SAR ADC with simultaneous sampling
The ADS7864Y/250 is a 12-bit successive-approximation-register (SAR) ADC from Texas Instruments, sampling at 500k samples per second across six differential inputs. Its architecture uses a sample-and-hold front end followed by a multiplexer feeding two internal A/D converters, enabling simultaneous sampling of input pairs — useful for motor-phase current or multi-axis position feedback where the phase relationship between channels must be preserved.
SPI interface and supply rails
Data is read over an SPI bus; the selectable address feature lets multiple ADS7864Y/250 devices share the same SPI lines without a separate chip-select per device, reducing GPIO demand on the host controller. The reference can be driven externally or taken from the internal reference, giving the designer a choice between an off-chip precision reference for tighter drift or the on-chip reference for BOM consolidation.
Package and temperature range
Housed in a 48-TQFP (7x7 mm) package, surface-mount, with a -40 to 85 °C operating range — suited for industrial control cabinets and outdoor telecom shelters where ambient temperature swings are routine.
