The ADS7843E is a 12-bit successive-approximation touchscreen controller designed for 4-wire resistive panels — the resolution determines how many discrete X-Y positions the host sees across the touch surface, so a 12-bit converter divides a 100 mm panel into roughly 4096 steps per axis. Its 2.5 µA supply current during idle periods makes it viable for battery-powered handhelds where the touch interface sleeps between user interactions and wakes on a pen-down interrupt.

The ADS7843E ships in tube format; the sibling ADS7843E/2K5 carries the same die in tape-and-reel packaging for automated pick-and-place lines — the two are functionally identical, so a BOM that calls for the tube variant can accept the reeled version with no layout change.
