Package and mounting
At 860 samples per second, the ADS1118IRUGR is not a high-speed ADC — it is a precision part for DC or low-frequency signals where noise rejection matters. The sigma-delta architecture with internal PGA means you can resolve microvolt-level changes from a bridge sensor or thermocouple without an external amplifier. The 16-bit output gives 65,536 codes across the selected full-scale range; the PGA handles gains from ±256 mV to ±6.144 V, so the input span matches the signal amplitude before conversion.
Package and temperature range — survives the hot-air station and the engine bay
The ADS1118IRUGR comes in a 10-X2QFN package (2 mm × 1.5 mm), surface-mount only. That tiny footprint is the trade-off: rework needs a hot-air station with a fine nozzle and a steady hand — the exposed pad under the package is the thermal and electrical ground, so get the solder paste stencil aperture right or the part floats.
