16-bit ADC with PGA — what 860 SPS buys the design
The ADS1115IRUGR is a 16-bit sigma-delta ADC from Texas Instruments that integrates a multiplexer, programmable gain amplifier (PGA), and internal reference in a single 10-X2QFN package. It samples at 860 SPS maximum — fast enough for DC sensor readout, thermocouple monitoring, or battery voltage tracking, but not for audio or vibration capture.
Single supply from 2V to 5.5V
Both analog and digital supplies run from 2V to 5.5V, so the same rail powers the ADC core and the I²C bus. No separate 1.8V digital supply needed — a 3.3V or 5V logic system connects directly without level shifters.
I²C bus with selectable address
The I²C interface supports a selectable address, allowing up to four ADS1115 devices on the same bus. The PGA (programmable gain amplifier) scales the full-scale input range from ±256 mV to ±6.144 V, letting the ADC resolve microvolt-level signals without an external amplifier.
The 10-X2QFN package (2x1.5 mm) is a 10-lead QFN with a 0.50 mm pitch — the small footprint demands careful solder-paste stencil design and X-ray inspection for voiding under the exposed pad.
