Single-gate buffer with 3-state control — what the 8 mA drive buys you
The Texas Instruments 74AHC1G126DBVRG4 is a single-gate non-inverting buffer with a 3-state output enable, part of the 74AHC family. It delivers 8 mA source and sink at the output, which is enough to drive a typical LED indicator, a small relay coil through a transistor base resistor, or the clock input of a few CMOS loads on a short board trace. The output goes high-impedance when the enable pin is low, letting multiple buffers share a bus without contention.
At 2 V it still guarantees 8 mA output drive, useful for low-voltage battery-powered logic. The AHC family is faster than the older HC series but slower than LVC — at 5 V typical propagation delay is around 7 ns, so it handles SPI clock rates up to roughly 50 MHz but won't keep up with 100 MHz+ buses. If you need the same footprint at 3.3 V with higher speed, the 74LVC1G126 is the pin-compatible alternative, though its supply range tops out at 3.6 V.
The SOT-23-5 package shares the same footprint as the SC-74A — 2.9 mm by 1.6 mm, five pins — common across single-gate logic families, so a board laid out for the LVC or HCS variant can take this AHC part with no PCB change.
