20-CLCC hermetic package — rework and reliability considerations
The 20-lead ceramic LCC (20-CLCC, 8.89x8.89 mm body) is a hermetic, solder-sealed package. It survives the hot-air station if you preheat the board to 100-120°C and use a fine nozzle focused on the leads — the ceramic body won't blister like plastic. Pin 1 orientation is marked by a dot on the ceramic lid; verify it before placement. The package is surface-mount, but the thermal expansion coefficient of the ceramic differs from FR-4, so avoid large temperature gradients during rework. The hermetic seal makes it suitable for high-humidity or vacuum environments where plastic packages would absorb moisture.
