Active production — 680 µH wirewound for filtering and energy storage
The Taiyo Yuden LBC2518T681KV is an active-production wirewound inductor in the LB, C Type series, rated 680 µH ±10% with a 45 mA current rating. The 36.4 Ohm max DC resistance is the dominant loss term at full load — at 45 mA the I²R loss is about 73 mW, which the 1007 (2518 Metric) surface-mount package dissipates without significant temperature rise in still air. The 3 MHz self-resonant frequency means this inductor maintains its inductive impedance up to about 3 MHz. Above that frequency the parasitic capacitance between windings dominates and the part behaves like a capacitor — a common trap when using a 680 µH part in a 2 MHz+ switching converter output filter.
Unshielded construction and layout considerations
This is an unshielded wirewound inductor. The magnetic field radiates from the core, so adjacent traces carrying sensitive analog signals or high-impedance nodes should be kept at least one part-width away. For a 2.50 mm x 1.80 mm footprint, a 3 mm keep-out zone around the body is a safe starting rule. The 1007 (2518 Metric) package has a seated height of 2.00 mm max. The 0.098" x 0.071" footprint fits standard pick-and-place nozzles; the part is compatible with reflow soldering profiles typical for lead-free assemblies.
Inductance is tested at 796 kHz per the datasheet. The ±10% tolerance is typical for power-grade wirewound inductors; for tuned circuits or precision filters, a tighter tolerance grade would be needed.
