220 µH wirewound in a 1007 SMD body — where the inductance and current rating meet
The LBC2518T221MV is a 220 µH ±20% unshielded wirewound inductor in Taiyo Yuden's LB, C Type series, surface-mounted in the 1007 (2518 metric) package. The 80 mA current rating and 10.92 Ohm max DCR define its conduction loss — at full rated current the I²R dissipation is about 70 mW, which the compact 2.50mm x 1.80mm body must shed into the board copper without exceeding the 105°C upper operating limit.
Self-resonant frequency and the inductive operating band
The self-resonant frequency is 5.5 MHz (tested at 796 kHz). Above that point the winding's inter-turn capacitance cancels the inductance and the impedance becomes capacitive — this sets the usable bandwidth for filtering or energy storage. For a 220 µH inductor, 5.5 MHz SRF is typical of a wirewound construction with moderate layer-to-layer capacitance. The unshielded construction means the magnetic field extends beyond the body. In a dense layout, keep adjacent traces and low-impedance loops at least one body width away to avoid coupling into the inductor's field.
Active production — sourcing posture for BOM lines
Taiyo Yuden lists the LBC2518T221MV as Active. The part is on the factory's current price book and can be sourced through authorized distribution channels.
