68 µH drum core on a ferrite former
The Taiyo Yuden LBC2016T680M is a drum-core wirewound inductor from the LB, C Type series, wound on a ferrite core and left unshielded.
95 mA current, 7 Ohm DCR — the trade-off
Rated for 95 mA continuous current. The 7 Ohm DC resistance (DCR) is the limiting factor here — at full rated current the I²R loss is 63 mW, which in an 0806 body without shielding means the temperature rise sits inside the ferrite's saturation curve but leaves little margin for ripple current. Self-resonant frequency is 10 MHz, well above the 2.52 MHz test frequency, so the inductor behaves as a pure inductance in the low-MHz switching range typical of DC-DC converters and LC filters.
NRND — plan the BOM migration now
The part remains orderable for existing production runs, but no new board spins should carry this inductor.
0806 SMD — footprint and stack-up
Packaged in 0806 (2016 Metric) surface-mount, supplied on tape and reel. Unshielded construction means the magnetic field couples into adjacent traces or components — keep a keep-out zone around the inductor on the PCB, especially under the body where the winding sits exposed.
