Wirewound 10 µH in 0805 — what the ratings mean for the BOM line
The LBC2012T100K is a Taiyo Yuden wirewound inductor from the LB, C Type series, unshielded, in an 0805 (2012 Metric) surface-mount package. Its 10 µH ±10% inductance is tested at 2.52 MHz, and the self-resonant frequency is 40 MHz — above that point the inductor behaves capacitively, so keep the switching or ripple frequency well below 40 MHz to retain inductive filtering. Rated for 200 mA continuous with a DC resistance of 1.2 Ohm, the I²R loss at full current is about 48 mW — negligible in most circuits, but the DCR also drops about 0.24 V at rated current, which matters for low-voltage rails where every millivolt of IR drop eats into the load margin.
The unshielded construction means magnetic flux couples into adjacent traces — keep sensitive analog or RF routing at least one component width away on the same layer.
