Logic-level sensitive-gate triac for AC load switching
The STMicroelectronics Z0107MN 5AA4 is a logic-level sensitive-gate triac rated for 600 V off-state voltage and 1 A RMS on-state current, housed in a surface-mount SOT-223 package.
The 5 mA Igt (max) and 1.3 V Vgt (max) mean this triac can be triggered directly by a standard logic gate or an optocoupler output transistor, saving a driver stage and its associated passives. The 1 A RMS continuous current rating is the thermal limit at 25°C ambient; derate for elevated operating temperature per the datasheet curve. The 10 mA holding current ensures the triac latches on once triggered and does not drop out on half-cycle zero crossings under typical resistive or inductive loads. Non-repetitive surge capability is 8 A at 50 Hz and 8.5 A at 60 Hz — sufficient for the inrush of a 100 W incandescent lamp or the capacitive charge of a small LED driver.
Package and assembly — SOT-223 footprint
The tab is electrically connected to the MT2 terminal, so the pad trace must handle the load current. Standard reflow profiles for lead-free solder apply; the package is ROHS3 compliant.
