Active production, 4-channel high-side switch
The VNQ860SP-E is an STMicroelectronics VIPower™ high-side driver with four N-channel outputs, each rated for 250 mA continuous. It switches loads from 5.5 V up to 36 V, making it a fit for 12 V and 24 V automotive and industrial systems where you need to drive lamps, solenoids, relays, or small motors.
What the ratings mean for your BOM
Each of the four channels can source 250 mA continuous. That's enough for a standard automotive relay coil (~150 mA) or a small incandescent indicator bulb, but you'll want to parallel channels if driving a higher-current actuator — the 270 mOhm max Rds(on) means at 250 mA each channel dissipates about 17 mW, so thermal buildup in the PowerSO-10 package is manageable even at 85°C ambient. The load voltage range (5.5 V to 36 V) covers both 12 V and 24 V nominal rails with margin for cold-crank dips and load-dump spikes. No external Vcc is needed — the driver powers itself from the load supply. Built-in fault protection includes fixed current limiting, over-temperature shutdown, and over-voltage clamping. The auto-restart feature means the driver re-tries after a fault clears — handy for a seat heater or a fan that might stall briefly, but if you need latched shutdown on a safety-critical load, you'll want to monitor the status flag output. The -40°C to 150°C junction temperature range covers under-hood automotive and outdoor industrial enclosures. The PowerSO-10 exposed pad helps conduct heat to the PCB copper plane — a solid thermal via pattern under the pad is worth the board space.
Package and sibling variants
The VNQ860SP-E ships in a tube with the PowerSO-10 exposed bottom pad. The same die is also available as VNQ860SPTR-E in tape-and-reel, and as VNQ860TR-E in a different package variant. If your pick-and-place line is set up for tape, the VNQ860SPTR-E drops in without a board change — same footprint, same electricals.
