21A high-side driver with 50mOhm Rds(on)
The VN7050ASTR: This is a single-channel N-channel high-side driver rated for a continuous output current of 21A maximum. The typical on-resistance of 50mOhm keeps conduction losses manageable at that current — at 21A the I²R loss is roughly 22W, so the thermal path through the 8-SOIC package's exposed pad must be considered in the PCB layout. The load voltage range spans 4V to 28V, covering standard 12V and 24V automotive and industrial rails. No external Vcc supply is needed — the driver is self-powered from the load voltage.
Fault protection and status flagging
Built-in fault protections include fixed current limiting, open-load detection, over-temperature shutdown, over-voltage clamping, and undervoltage lockout (UVLO). The Status Flag output signals a fault condition to the microcontroller, and the Auto Restart feature resets the driver after a thermal fault once the junction cools. The input is non-inverting with a simple On/Off interface — logic high turns the output on. This keeps the firmware interface straightforward: a single GPIO pin controls the load.
Temperature grade and package
The 8-SOIC package (3.90mm width) is a standard surface-mount footprint, widely used and easy to inspect. Store the reels in a dry cabinet if the moisture sensitivity level (MSL) of the package requires it; the 8-SOIC typically has an MSL of 1 or 2, but verify the reel label.
