50 W flyback with integrated 650 V GaN switch
The VIPERGAN50TR integrates a 650 V GaN power switch and controller in a single 15-QFN (5x6) package, delivering up to 50 W in a flyback topology. The 240 kHz switching frequency lets you shrink the transformer core compared to a 65 kHz design, but the quasi-resonant valley-switching keeps turn-on losses in check — you are not paying the hard-switching penalty at that frequency. The 9 V to 23 V supply range (Vcc/Vdd) covers standard auxiliary windings from 12 V to 15 V rails without an external linear regulator. The 50 % duty cycle limit is typical for a flyback in continuous-conduction mode; if you need >50 % for a forward converter, this is not the part.
150 °C junction — design margin in tight enclosures
Rated junction temperature from -40 °C to 150 °C (TJ). The 150 °C ceiling gives headroom in enclosed adapters or motor-drive auxiliary supplies where ambient inside the box hits 85–100 °C. The 15-VQFN exposed pad relies on the PCB copper area for heat spreading — the datasheet layout recommendation on page 7 is worth following for full power delivery. Fault protection covers current limiting, over-load, over-temperature, and over-voltage — all on-chip. The soft-start control feature reduces inrush stress on the output capacitor and the transformer core during startup.
