75 W quasi-resonant offline converter with integrated 650 V GaN switch
The VIPERGAN100TR is an advanced quasi-resonant offline converter from STMicroelectronics rated for 75 W output power. It integrates a 650 V breakdown GaN power switch and switches at 240 kHz in a forward, secondary-side SR topology. The 50% duty cycle limit and soft-start control reduce inrush stress on the output capacitors and the downstream load. Built-in fault protections cover current limiting, over-load, over-temperature, over-voltage, short-circuit, and UVLO, which simplifies the supervisory loop for a compact isolated supply.
240 kHz switching and 150°C junction rating
At 240 kHz, the transformer core volume can be smaller than a 65 kHz design, but the switching losses in the GaN FET are low enough that the junction temperature rating of 150°C is achievable without a heatsink in many 75 W applications. The supply voltage range of 9 V to 23 V with a 15 V start-up threshold covers the typical bias rail from an auxiliary winding or a bootstrap supply.
