Product details

20 W flyback with a 700 V built-in switch

The STMicroelectronics VIPER20ADIP-E is an offline flyback switcher from the VIPER™ series, integrating a 700 V avalanche-rugged power MOSFET and PWM controller in a single 8-DIP through-hole package. It delivers up to 20 W in an isolated topology — enough for auxiliary supplies, appliance power boards, and industrial control bias rails. The internal start-up circuit (11 V start-up threshold) and fault protection (current limiting, over-temperature) reduce external component count.

700 V breakdown — headroom for universal input

The 700 V breakdown rating gives the VIPER20ADIP-E comfortable margin on rectified 230 VAC (≈325 VDC) and even on 277 VAC lines common in industrial lighting. The switching frequency runs up to 200 kHz, which lets the designer shrink the flyback transformer core compared to a 100 kHz design — useful when board space is tight. Supply range is 8 V to 15 V on Vcc, so a simple auxiliary winding can bias it.

Obsolete — no official successor listed

The VIPER20ADIP-E is marked obsolete by STMicroelectronics. No direct pin-compatible replacement or successor order code is recorded in the lifecycle data.

Frequently asked questions

What is the closest replacement or equivalent for the VIPER20ADIP-E?

No pin-compatible replacement or official cross-reference is listed in the available lifecycle data. For a drop-in fit, the surplus channel is the only route. If a redesign is acceptable, consider ST's newer VIPERPlus or VIPER0P families — but those require a board spin and are not drop-in substitutes.
