600 V, 6 A RMS — the load-switching envelope
The TYN606RG is a standard-recovery SCR rated for 600 V off-state blocking and 6 A RMS on-state continuous current. This combination suits it for phase-control circuits in AC line-powered applications — motor speed controllers, heater regulators, and solid-state relay front-ends where the load current stays under 6 A RMS and the peak repetitive voltage does not exceed 600 V. The 70 A / 73 A non-repetitive surge rating (50/60 Hz) covers the inrush from a cold filament or a motor start — the device survives the transient as long as the junction temperature stays within the SOA. The 30 mA hold current and 15 mA gate trigger current are typical for this current class; the control circuit must source at least 15 mA into the gate to latch the SCR on, and the load current must exceed 30 mA to keep it conducting after the gate pulse ends.
TO-220-3 through-hole — board-fit and thermal path
The TO-220-3 package (supplier device package TO-220) is a three-lead through-hole form factor with a metal tab on the back. The 1.6 V max on-state voltage at rated current gives the conduction loss budget: at 6 A RMS, the dissipation is roughly 9.6 W peak, which demands a heatsink for continuous operation above a few amps.
