1.2 kV SCR for industrial power control
The STMicroelectronics TYN1225RG is a standard recovery SCR in a TO-220-3 through-hole package, rated for 1.2 kV off-state voltage and 25 A RMS on-state current. The 16 A average current rating supports continuous conduction in phase-control circuits like motor drives, soft starters, and industrial power supplies. Gate trigger current is 40 mA max, which is a standard level for direct drive from a microcontroller I/O through a series resistor — no separate driver IC needed for most designs.
Thermal and surge capability
Non-repetitive surge current is 250 A at 50 Hz and 260 A at 60 Hz — this surge rating handles inrush from capacitive loads or motor start events. Off-state leakage is 5 µA max, and on-state voltage is 1.6 V max at rated current, which sets the conduction loss for heatsink sizing.
The metal tab is the anode connection — electrical isolation from the heatsink is required unless the heatsink is at anode potential.
