430 nA quiescent — the battery-life enabler
The STMicroelectronics TS880ILT is a single-channel, general-purpose comparator in a SOT-23-5 package, designed for applications where every nanoamp counts. Its standout spec is a maximum quiescent current of 430 nA, which lets it sit continuously on a battery rail without draining the cell. The open-drain output with rail-to-rail input range means it can interface directly with a microcontroller GPIO or an interrupt line without a level shifter, even at supply voltages as low as 0.9 V.
The supply range from 0.9 V to 5.5 V covers everything from a single alkaline cell (nominal 1.5 V, sagging to ~0.9 V under load) up to a regulated 5 V rail.
The 23 µs maximum propagation delay is adequate for DC or low-frequency threshold sensing — think over-temperature alerts, undervoltage lockout, or window comparators — but not for high-speed PWM or zero-crossing detection.
The SOT-23-5 footprint is widely used and easy to hand-assemble or reflow.
