Quad JFET op-amp for audio and sensor conditioning
The TL074CDT is a quad JFET-input operational amplifier from STMicroelectronics, packing four independent op-amps into a single 14-SOIC package. The JFET input stage delivers 30 pA typical input bias current, making it a natural fit for high-impedance sensor front-ends where a bipolar input stage would load the source. With a 3 MHz gain-bandwidth product and 13 V/µs slew rate, the TL074CDT handles audio-band signals cleanly — the slew rate supports full output swing up to roughly 100 kHz before distortion climbs.
The 13 V/µs slew rate means the output can swing 10 V peak-to-peak at roughly 200 kHz before slew-rate limiting sets in; for audio-rate signals (20 Hz–20 kHz) the margin is generous. Input offset voltage is 3 mV typical — adequate for DC-coupled audio paths where a few millivolts of DC offset at the output is tolerable. The 40 mA output current per channel can drive a 32 Ω headphone load directly, though a series resistor is recommended to limit current on start-up transients. Supply current is 1.4 mA per amplifier (5.6 mA total for the quad), which keeps the thermal rise low in the SOIC-14 package even when all four channels are active.
