800 V, 8 A Snubberless™ triac in DPAK
The STMicroelectronics T835-800B-TR is an Alternistor - Snubberless triac rated for 800 V off-state voltage and 8 A RMS on-state current. It switches AC loads without an external snubber network, which simplifies the BOM and shrinks the PCB footprint for inductive loads like motors, solenoids, and transformers. The DPAK surface-mount package suits automated assembly for medium-power AC switching in industrial controls, lighting ballasts, and appliance drives.
Snubberless™ — no RC snubber needed
The Alternistor structure is designed for commutating dV/dt immunity, so it does not require the usual RC snubber across the main terminals when driving inductive loads. This saves one resistor and one capacitor per triac — real estate and cost on the board. Keep the gate drive trace short and route it away from the high-current AC path to avoid false triggering. The DPAK tab is the MT2 terminal; if you mount it on a heatsink, ensure electrical isolation or account for the live tab in the enclosure design.
For dual-sourcing, the closest functional equivalent is the T1235-600G — same Snubberless Alternistor topology but rated for 600 V and 12 A, so it is a drop-in for lower-voltage, higher-current applications.
