It is designed for AC load switching in industrial and commercial equipment — motor drives, lighting ballasts, heating elements, and solenoid valves — where the Snubberless™ construction eliminates the external RC snubber network for resistive and moderately inductive loads.
Snubberless™ advantage — no external snubber needed
The Snubberless™ alternistor design uses a modified gate structure that improves dv/dt immunity, so for many resistive and inductive loads you can omit the RC snubber network across the triac. That saves two components (a resistor and a capacitor) and the PCB area they occupy. For highly inductive loads like large motors or transformers, a small snubber may still be prudent, but the Snubberless™ rating gives you headroom to simplify the BOM.
