Fast recovery diode for PFC and SMPS output stages
The STMicroelectronics STTH8S06FP is a 600 V, 8 A fast recovery rectifier in the TO-220-2 Full Pack (TO-220FPAC) package.
The 18 ns trr is measured at rated conditions and keeps the reverse-recovery charge low enough that the MOSFET or IGBT on the other leg does not see a hard current spike at turn-on. In a 100 kHz PFC stage, that translates to lower switching loss in the diode itself and less EMI from the recovery snap. The 3.4 V forward drop at 8 A is the conduction-loss side of the trade-off — the designer sizes the heatsink for the sum of both.
TO-220 Full Pack — isolated tab, one fewer assembly step
The TO-220-2 Full Pack moulds the plastic over the back of the tab so the metal slug is not exposed. That eliminates the need for a silicone pad or mica washer between the diode and the heatsink — the mounting screw torque goes directly into the tab without a short-circuit risk. For a rework bench, the full-pack body also means the part can be clamped to a heatsink with thermal grease only, and the tab stays at cathode potential inside the plastic envelope.
