Fast recovery diode for PFC and SMPS boost stages
It comes in a TO-220AC insulated through-hole package, which simplifies heatsink mounting by eliminating the need for an insulating pad or bushing in many chassis-grounded designs. This diode is suited for continuous-current-mode (CCM) power factor correction boost stages, output rectification in switch-mode power supplies, and freewheeling paths in motor drives where fast switching and low reverse recovery charge reduce EMI and switching losses.
45 ns trr — switching loss anchor
The 45 ns reverse recovery time at 8 A is the key switching parameter. In a 100 kHz PFC boost, each hard-switching turn-off event dissipates energy proportional to trr × Vr × Ir; a 45 ns trr keeps that loss manageable without resorting to SiC. Forward voltage is 2.9 V maximum at 8 A, 25°C junction — conduction loss at full load is about 23 W, so a heatsink with adequate thermal mass is required. Reverse leakage is 30 µA at 600 V, which is typical for a fast recovery diode of this voltage class and does not materially affect standby losses in most offline supplies.
It is ROHS3 compliant, with no exemption conflicts for EU-market builds. The TO-220AC insulated package is widely stocked across independent distribution.
