40 ns trr — the switching edge this diode brings
The STTH8BC060D is a 600 V, 8 A fast recovery diode from STMicroelectronics, built for the boost and PFC stages of switch-mode power supplies. Its 40 ns reverse recovery time (trr) is the key parameter — it cuts the switching losses in continuous-conduction-mode PFC and lets the designer push the switching frequency higher without cooking the diode.
STMicroelectronics lists the STTH8BC060D as Obsolete.
Ratings that set the application envelope
600 V reverse voltage and 8 A average rectified current place this diode squarely in the 300–400 W PFC stage or output rectification of a 150–250 W flyback converter. The 3.6 V forward drop at 8 A is on the higher side for a fast diode — expect conduction loss to be a factor in the thermal budget, especially in a TO-220AC package without a heatsink.
