55 ns reverse recovery — what it buys the switching supply
Its 55 ns reverse recovery time (trr) keeps switching losses low at frequencies up to 100 kHz, which directly shrinks the heatsink needed compared to a standard recovery diode at the same current.
Insulated tab — one less assembly step
The TO-220AC insulated package (TO-220-2 Insulated) has a fully isolated tab — no mica washer or bushing required when bolting to a grounded heatsink. The junction is rated to 175°C maximum, and the 1.85 V forward drop at 8 A means the part dissipates about 15 W at full rated current, so a heatsink is mandatory for continuous operation. Reverse leakage at 600 V is 8 µA, negligible in the thermal budget.
ST lists the STTH806DIRG as Active product status and ROHS3 compliant.
