The STTH802G-TR is a 200 V, 8 A standard fast recovery diode from STMicroelectronics, housed in a D2PAK (TO-263AB) surface-mount package. It is classified as Fast Recovery with a reverse recovery time (trr) of 30 ns, placing it well within the ≤ 500 ns category for switching applications above 200 mA.
What the ratings mean for the BOM
Rated 200 V reverse voltage and 8 A average rectified current, the STTH802G-TR suits boost-stage or output rectification in power supplies up to that voltage and current ceiling. The 30 ns trr keeps switching losses low in continuous-conduction-mode PFC or flyback converters operating above 50 kHz. Forward voltage is 1.05 V max at 8 A — the conduction loss at full load is roughly 8.4 W, which the D2PAK's exposed tab must sink to the board copper. The 175°C maximum junction temperature provides thermal headroom for high-ambient or confined enclosures, provided the PCB layout handles the dissipation. Reverse leakage is 6 µA at 200 V, a figure that rises with junction temperature; at 125°C it may increase by an order of magnitude, so standby-loss budgets should account for the hot leakage.
The D2PAK (TO-263AB) footprint is shared with many 8 A-class diodes — the tab is the cathode, and the two anode pins are internally connected. The tape-and-reel variant (STTH802G-TR) is the standard ordering code for reflow assembly; cut-tape (CT) is also available for prototyping or low-volume builds.
