200 V, 8 A, 30 ns trr — the fast-recovery workhorse for PFC and secondary rectification
The STTH802FP is a 200 V, 8 A fast-recovery diode from STMicroelectronics, built with standard planar technology and specified with a 30 ns reverse recovery time. That trr figure puts it in the fast-recovery class — it switches hard enough for continuous-conduction-mode PFC boost stages and secondary-side rectification in DC bus supplies, without the snap-off behaviour of an ultrafast diode.
Isolated tab — one less part in the kit
The TO-220FPAC (Full Pack, Isolated Tab) package means the metal tab is electrically isolated from the die. No mica washer, no thermal pad, no risk of a short if the heatsink touches a chassis ground. On a field repair where you are swapping a diode on a live PFC board without a full ESD bench, that saves a step and a potential mistake. The junction is rated to 175 °C max, so the thermal margin is generous even in a cramped enclosure with limited airflow. Forward voltage drop is 1.05 V at 8 A — a reasonable 8.4 W conduction loss at full load, which the isolated tab can sink to a heatsink without extra isolation hardware.
