What the 30 ns trr buys you
The STTH802B is a fast-recovery epitaxial diode from STMicroelectronics rated for 200 V reverse voltage and 8 A average forward current. Its 30 ns reverse recovery time (trr) is the spec that makes it useful for continuous-conduction-mode boost PFC stages and high-frequency rectification above 100 kHz — standard 50/60 Hz rectifiers with microsecond trr would overheat in the same spot. Forward voltage is 1.05 V at the full 8 A rating, which keeps conduction losses manageable for a DPAK package. The 6 µA reverse leakage at 200 V is typical for a 175°C junction-rated ultrafast diode.
STMicroelectronics lists the STTH802B as obsolete.
The STTH802B comes in a TO-252-3 DPAK (DPak, 2 leads plus tab, SC-63) — a standard surface-mount package with an exposed tab for thermal management. The tab is the cathode, so the PCB copper pour under the tab carries both the return current and the heat. No alternate package variants are listed.
