60 A fast recovery in a TO-247-3 — what the ratings actually mean
The STTH60P03SW is a 60 A, 300 V fast recovery diode from STMicroelectronics in a TO-247-3 through-hole package. Recovery time is under 500 ns at currents above 200 mA.
300 V reverse and 60 A forward — the bus voltage and load budget
The 300 V DC reverse voltage covers single-phase 230 VAC rectified rails (about 325 V peak with tolerance) with some margin, but not 400 VDC three-phase or power-factor-corrected rails. The 60 A average rectified current is the continuous rating at the case temperature — derate it above 25°C per the datasheet curve. At 30 A forward, the typical forward voltage drop is 1.5 V, which puts conduction losses at 45 W at that current.
Leakage and temperature — the hidden thermal budget
Reverse leakage is specified at 100 µA at 300 V reverse — that figure climbs exponentially with junction temperature. At 175°C the leakage current can dominate the thermal budget in a high-voltage, lightly loaded standby circuit.
