Automotive fast recovery diode for high-voltage power stages
The STTH6010WY is an automotive-grade (AEC-Q101) fast recovery rectifier from STMicroelectronics, rated 1000 V reverse voltage and 60 A average forward current in a DO-247 through-hole package. Its 115 ns reverse recovery time suits hard-switched topologies like PFC boost stages, DC-DC converters, and inverter freewheel diodes where switching losses dominate the thermal budget.
115 ns trr — switching loss anchor
The 115 ns trr at 60 A and 1000 V sets the recovery charge the downstream MOSFET or IGBT must absorb. In a 100 kHz PFC stage, this trr keeps the reverse-recovery energy per cycle under 200 µJ, allowing a standard ultrafast driver without a large snubber. The 2 V forward drop at 60 A is the conduction loss floor — at 60 A continuous the diode dissipates 120 W, so the heatsink must hold the junction below 175 °C.
DO-247 package — mounting and thermal path
The DO-247-2 (straight leads) package has a large copper tab for heatsink mounting. The junction-to-case thermal resistance is low enough that a forced-air heatsink with a 0.5 °C/W rating keeps the junction within the -40 °C to 175 °C operating range at full load. The through-hole leads require a 1.6 mm minimum PCB thickness for mechanical stability in high-vibration automotive environments.
The base product number STTH6010 covers the whole family; the WY suffix denotes the automotive-grade variant with AEC-Q101 qualification and the DO-247 package. ROHS3 compliant.
