Obsolete — sourcing the STTH506B for your BOM
The STTH506B is a fast recovery epitaxial diode from ST's STTH family, rated for 600 V reverse voltage and 5 A average forward current. Its 50 ns reverse recovery time (trr) places it in the ultrafast class — fast enough for continuous-conduction-mode PFC boost stages, high-frequency rectification in 100–200 kHz SMPS, and snubber clamping. The 1.85 V forward drop at 5 A is a conduction-loss trade-off typical of fast recovery diodes: you get the switching speed but pay a higher VF than a slower standard recovery part. Junction temperature is rated up to 175 °C, which gives headroom in a cramped power supply layout.
DPAK footprint and mounting
The part comes in a DPAK (TO-252-3) surface-mount package. The tab is the cathode — it is electrically live, so the PCB copper pour under the tab must be isolated or tied to the output rail, not ground. Standard DPAK footprint applies; the tube shipment means the parts are not on a reel, so pick-and-place will need a tube feeder or a manual placement step for small runs.
