30 ns reverse recovery — what it buys the switching stage
The STTH4R02D is a 200 V, 4 A ultrafast recovery diode from STMicroelectronics, specified with a 30 ns reverse recovery time (trr). That trr figure is the headline parameter for a fast-recovery diode in a 200 V class — it directly sets the turn-off switching loss in a PFC boost stage, flyback clamp, or secondary-side snubber. At 4 A average rectified current (Io) and a forward voltage of 1.05 V at 4 A, conduction loss is moderate; the diode is a good fit for continuous-current mode (CCM) power converters running in the 50–150 kHz range where recovery charge dominates the loss budget.
Housed in a TO-220AC (TO-220-2) through-hole package, the STTH4R02D is suited for board-level mounting with a heatsink tab. The through-hole form factor simplifies manual replacement in rework or repair scenarios compared to surface-mount alternatives.
