600 V, 30 A fast recovery diode — 70 ns trr for hard-switched stages
The STTH30R06W is a 600 V, 30 A fast recovery rectifier from STMicroelectronics, built with planar technology for controlled avalanche characteristics. Its 70 ns reverse recovery time suits continuous-current-mode (CCM) power factor correction, output rectification in 1–2 kW switch-mode supplies, and snubber clamping in motor drives.
A 70 ns trr at 30 A forward current keeps reverse-recovery losses low at switching frequencies up to 100 kHz. In a CCM boost PFC stage, the recovery charge is small enough that the MOSFET turn-on loss does not dominate the thermal budget. The 1.85 V forward drop at 30 A is a trade-off: higher than a Schottky at this voltage class, but the 600 V blocking rating and 175°C junction temperature ceiling make it viable for high-line industrial supplies where Schottky options stop at 200 V.
DO-247 package — mounting and thermal path
The DO-247-2 (straight leads) through-hole package is designed for bolt-down mounting to a heatsink. The exposed metal tab carries the cathode and provides the primary thermal path. For a 30 A average current, the junction-to-case thermal resistance must be managed with a proper thermal interface material and a heatsink sized for the total dissipation — the 175°C Tj max gives headroom, but the tab temperature should stay below 125°C for reliable long-term operation in industrial environments.
