The STTH3002G-TR is a 200 V, 30 A fast-recovery diode from STMicroelectronics, built with standard planar technology and housed in a D2PAK (TO-263) surface-mount package. Its 50 ns reverse recovery time qualifies it for switching power supplies, PFC stages, and motor-drive snubbers where recovery speed directly affects efficiency and ringing.
50 ns trr — the switching-speed edge
A 50 ns reverse recovery time at 30 A forward current means this diode recovers fast enough for continuous-conduction-mode PFC and high-frequency rectification above 50 kHz. Slower diodes in the same voltage/current class (e.g., standard recovery types) would dissipate more switching loss and generate higher EMI at those frequencies. The forward voltage drop is 1.05 V typical at 30 A, which sets the conduction loss floor.
D2PAK rework — will it survive the hot air?
The D2PAK (TO-263) package has a large exposed copper tab on the bottom. That tab is the main thermal path, but it also soaks heat during rework. Preheating the board helps avoid lifting the pad.
