30 ns trr — what it does for the switching edge
The STTH2R02UY is a 200 V, 2 A fast recovery diode from STMicroelectronics, part of the Q Automotive series. Its 30 ns reverse recovery time (trr) is the defining parameter: it lets the diode snap off quickly when the current reverses, which cuts the turn-off loss in a hard-switched converter and reduces the snubber burden. The forward voltage is 1 V at the rated 2 A, a reasonable trade-off for the recovery speed.
2 A in an SMB — thermal derating matters
At 2 A continuous the junction will climb well above ambient; the board's copper area and airflow determine how much margin remains. The 3 µA reverse leakage at 200 V is low enough not to trouble most designs, but it doubles with temperature — budget for it if the ambient is hot.
Q Automotive — AEC-Q101 qualified
The Q Automotive designation means this part is AEC-Q101 qualified, which is the standard for automotive-grade discrete semiconductors. It is suited for under-hood and chassis-domain applications that require the extended temperature and reliability screening that commercial-grade parts do not carry. The 175°C junction rating supports the high-temperature end of the automotive range.
