1200 V 2 A fast recovery rectifier — switching loss and thermal budget
The STTH212U: Rated for 1200 V reverse voltage and 2 A average forward current, it targets high-voltage DC-link snubbers, boost diodes in PFC stages, and flyback catch diodes where the voltage rail exceeds 600 V. The 75 ns reverse recovery time (trr) keeps switching losses low and limits ringing in hard-switched topologies — the recovery charge is small enough that a simple RC snubber across the diode is often sufficient.
Forward drop and leakage at temperature
Maximum forward voltage is 1.75 V at 2 A, 25 °C junction — conduction loss at rated current is 3.5 W peak, which the SMB package must sink through the board copper. Reverse leakage is 10 µA maximum at 1200 V, 25 °C junction — this doubles roughly every 10 °C, so at 125 °C junction the leakage current approaches 1 mA, adding ~1.2 W of off-state dissipation that must be included in the thermal budget. Rated junction temperature reaches 175 °C maximum, giving headroom in high-ambient environments like enclosed power supplies or motor-drive auxiliary rails.
The DO-214AA (SMB) package has a 0.208-inch body width and 0.155-inch height — the cathode tab is the backside metal, so the PCB footprint must include a thermal pad under the body to conduct heat into the board plane. Supplied in Tape & Reel (TR) or Cut Tape (CT) formats, the part is compatible with standard pick-and-place assembly and reflow profiles for SMB packages.
