Dual fast-recovery rectifier in TO-220FP
The STTH16L06CFP is a dual common-cathode fast-recovery diode array from STMicroelectronics, rated for 600 V reverse voltage and 8 A average rectified current per diode. The 55 ns reverse recovery time (trr) puts it in the fast-recovery class — under 500 ns at over 200 mA — making it a fit for switching power supplies and PFC boost stages where the diode's turn-off losses at high frequency matter more than the raw current rating.
Package and thermal path
Housed in a TO-220 Full Pack (TO-220FP) through-hole package, the STTH16L06CFP has a fully isolated plastic tab — no metal backplate. This means the heatsink interface is the plastic body, not a conductive pad, so the thermal resistance is higher than a standard TO-220 but the part can be bolted to a shared heatsink without an insulating washer. The 1.8 V forward drop at 8 A per diode sets the conduction loss budget: 14.4 W per diode at rated current, and the 175°C maximum junction temperature gives some headroom for derating, but that plastic tab will run hot in a confined enclosure without forced airflow.
Leakage and reverse recovery reality
Reverse leakage is specified at 8 µA at 600 V — that's at 25°C junction. Expect leakage to roughly double every 10°C, so at 125°C it's in the milliamps range, which feeds into the off-state power dissipation calculation. The 55 ns trr is typical at rated conditions; actual recovery time depends on the forward current and dI/dt in the circuit, so don't design the dead-time margin around the typical number — the datasheet's maximum trr is what governs safe commutation in a hard-switched topology.
