Fast recovery diode pair in I2PAK — STTH1602CR
The STTH1602CR is a dual fast-recovery epitaxial diode from STMicroelectronics, configured as a common cathode pair in a single I2PAK through-hole package. Maximum junction temperature is rated to 175 °C, which gives thermal headroom for designs where the diodes share a common heatsink tab. Forward voltage is specified at 1.1 V maximum when carrying 8 A, and reverse leakage stays under 6 µA at the 200 V blocking voltage.
Procurement for this diode runs through independent distribution and surplus inventory. Buyers should plan for last-time-buy or alternate-part qualification in production volumes.
The 26 ns trr places this diode in the fast-recovery class for a 200 V part. In a continuous-conduction-mode PFC or a hard-switched bridge, that recovery speed reduces the turn-off loss in the diode itself and limits the reverse-recovery current spike that the companion MOSFET must absorb. Designs switching above 60 kHz or in high-temperature environments where recovery charge rises will see a measurable efficiency difference versus a slower 50–100 ns part.
Common cathode pair — layout and derating
The two 10 A diodes share the same cathode tab, which is the I2PAK's exposed metal back. In a typical center-tapped secondary rectifier or a dual-boost interleaved stage, that common cathode connection simplifies the PCB layout because the output rail ties directly to the package tab. Each diode still carries its own anode pin, so the two channels can switch independently as long as the total package dissipation stays within the junction temperature limit. The I2PAK through-hole package needs a heatsink or a large copper island on the board to pull heat out of the tab.
