1200 V, 15 A, 40 ns — the PFC and snubber diode
The STTH15S12D is a fast-recovery epitaxial diode from STMicroelectronics, rated for 1200 V reverse voltage and 15 A average rectified current in a TO-220AC through-hole package.
40 ns trr at 1200 V — switching loss anchor
The 40 ns trr is specified at the full 15 A forward current and 1200 V blocking voltage.
175°C junction — thermal headroom in a TO-220AC
Rated for a maximum junction temperature of 175°C, the STTH15S12D can run hotter than the common 150°C-grade fast diodes. In a TO-220AC package with a heatsink, that extra 25°C headroom translates to either higher output current in the same thermal environment or a smaller heatsink for a given load. The 10 µA reverse leakage at 1200 V is a room-temperature figure; at 175°C junction, expect leakage to rise — budget for it in the bias supply design.
